Purple Haze

I’ve been putting off writing some deep shit. I’m afraid I’d lose it if I did. Break down. Snap.
There’s a constant pounding in my chest, inhabited by a drumline, incessant, unrelenting, seething along with the burning staccato of this throbbing fistful of flesh, my heart, scathed.
See, I should stop. Really.
Oh Natural

How do you tell the rooster: stop crowing
for chrissakes, it’s still three in the morning?
Will the geckos stop clicking?
Once you shout at them: shut up
it ain’t raining, freak!
Must the frogs cancel their croaking sessions
because you put up a ‘Silence Please’ sign by their pond?
Can that occasional firefly even hold its fire for a while
just so you could answer your phone in the dark?
Let’s see then if you and I would give way
to the train of ants crossing the street
or pardon the mosquitoes
for making love under our noses.
I did not think so.

(Penned the first few lines awhile back. Couldn’t quite finish it. But I had to let it out already. So there.)
